The University of Dar es Salaam (UD) is one of Tanzania’s oldest institutions of higher learning. Established in 1936, the university has a rich history and a reputation as one of the best universities in Tanzania.

Today, UD continues to expand its presence around the world by focusing on distance education and global collaboration. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through four schools and colleges.

The school of Education studies both general education and applied subjects related to teaching and learning at all levels. The School of Management focuses on business education for professionals interested in working with students or an organization that teaches students.

The School of Social Sciences studies public administration, international relations, cultural anthropology, human geography, African studies, etc. These four schools are further divided into around 100 departments each with their own course offerings and faculty members.

There are also several centers where programs take place that host visiting professors teaching courses as well as lectures on specific topics taught by experts from around the world. UDSM Admissions 2022/2023

The University of Dar es salaam (UDSM) offers various academic programmes leading to the award of certificates, diplomas, and degrees. A total of 88 Undergraduate Degree Programmes are offered at various academic units of the University. You may download the UDSM Admission Procedures Guidebook from www.udsm.ac.tz

Applications for admission are invited from qualified candidates wishing to pursue various undergraduate degree programmes for the academic year 2022/2023.

All requisite information and guidelines to take the applicant through the application stages are provided from the Instructions tab. Applicants are reminded to register their names as they appear in their O & A level certificates; likewise their index numbers where prompted.

All Direct applicants with Foreign Certificates should first present their certificates to the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) for verification.

They will in turn be given letters showing NECTA equivalent grades, copies of which should also be uploaded together with other certificates. Further information on NECTA verification can be obtained from www.necta.go.tz.

Equivalent applicants are advised to obtain a special unique number from National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) which will be required when applying in the system. For further information about NACTE verification process please consult them at www.nacte.go.tz.

UDSM Admissions 2022/2023

In 2012, the University Ranking by Academic Performance Center ranked the University of Dar es Salaam as the 1,618th best university in the world (out of 2,000 ranked universities).

In 2013, Academy Rank ranked the university as the 2,965th best university worldwide (out of 9,803 ranked universities) but the best of the 16 ranked in Tanzania, with the Sokoine University of Agriculture in second place.

In 2012, the Sc-imago Institutions Rankings placed the university in 3,021st place worldwide (out of 3,290 ranked institutions), 57th in Africa, and second in Tanzania behind the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. This ranking is based on the total number of documents published in scholarly journals indexed in the Scopus database by Elsevier. Based solely on the university’s “excellence rate”, the university was ranked 16th out of 62 universities in Africa in 2011.

This rate “indicates which percentage of an institution’s scientific output is included into the set formed by the 10% of the most cited papers in their respective scientific fields. In July 2012, Webometrics ranked the university as the 1,977th best university worldwide based on its web presence (an assessment of the scholarly contents, visibility, and impact of the university on the web) but the best in Tanzania, with the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University far behind in second place.
