At the age of 35, former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Ryan Mallett tragically passed away in Florida on vacation. His death was confirmed by the White Hall School District, where he was the head football coach at White Hall High School. In response, the school district expressed deep sadness and asked for prayers for Mallett’s family, team, students, fellow coaches, and staff members.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mallett drowned in the Gulf of Mexico in Destin, Florida, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. As a result of Mallett’s death, the sheriff’s office extended their condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones. Mallett was part of a group attempting to return to shore near the second sandbar when lifeguards found him in the water unresponsive and pronounced him dead.

After playing college football at the University of Arkansas, Mallett was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. From 2015 to 2017, Mallett played for the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens. He threw for four touchdowns and 648 yards in eight games with the Ravens.

Tyrod Taylor offered his condolences by saying, “RIP Ryan Mallett!” upon hearing the news of Mallett’s passing.

Mallett’s death was reported by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office as an apparent drowning. He was an Arkansas football coach at White Hall High School before passing away on Tuesday. A post on the school district’s website confirmed his death on Tuesday.

As a quarterback at Arkansas, Ryan Mallett was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He also played for the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens. Mallett was the head football coach at White Hall High School in White Hall, Arkansas after his playing career.

As a high school student, Mallett graduated from Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas. Rivals.com ranked him as the #2 quarterback and #4 overall player in the nation. He also received accolades such as the Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas in 2006.

In college, Mallett started his career at the University of Michigan before transferring to the University of Arkansas. Mallett set numerous records at Arkansas and was named the Offensive MVP at the 2010 Liberty Bowl. Mallett decided to forgo his senior year and declare for the 2011 NFL Draft.

In the NFL, Mallett played primarily as a backup to Tom Brady. He later joined the Houston Texans, where he had opportunities as a starting quarterback. Mallett also spent a brief period with the Baltimore Ravens. He had both successes and setbacks during his professional career.
