The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) is a legislative and regulatory agency that was founded in 2005 by the Government of Tanzania to govern university education in Tanzania. Its aim is to ensure that Tanzanian students receive a quality education. It is this organization’s recognition, permission, and accreditation that must be obtained prior to the establishment of any university.

TCU Tanzania has made public the names of applicants who have been accepted to more than one college or who have been chosen for more than one course for the academic year 2022/2023.

About Tanzania Commission for Universities(TCU)

In order to replace the previous Higher Education Accreditation Council, which had been in existence since 1995, the Universities Act (Chapter 346 of the Laws of Tanzania) provided for the establishment of the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) on July 1, 2005.

It is a corporate body tasked with recognizing, approving, registering, and accrediting Tanzanian universities as well as regionally and internationally recognized university-level programs provided by recognized higher education institutions.

The Higher Education Accreditation Council (HEAC), which was established in 1995 in accordance with the Education Act of 1995, has been replaced by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU). The HEAC had the legal responsibility to oversee the establishment and subsequent accreditation of private university institutions in the nation.

Such a mandate was deemed unfavorable for promoting a workable public-private partnership in higher education because it only applied to private universities, as stated in the 1999 National Higher Education Policy.
